Tummy Bug

7th Apr 2022

Currently there seems to be a rise in tummy bugs with vomiting and diarrhoea across the school.  Given that children work and play in such close proximity with one another they will inevitably pass on germs quite easily. To help prevent this we want to remind parents of the guidance on infection control by the Public Health Agency, which outlines the recommended periods of time that children should be kept away from school following illness.  This is the advice that we follow when issuing guidance to parents, and it recommends that children should not return to school for a period of 48 hours from the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea. Please ensure your child remains off school for 48hrs after vomitting or diarrhoea and do not send them to school if they have been unwell. We appreciate that this is inconvenient in many cases, and you may not believe your child is ill, but you will appreciate that we do this in all cases and it should reduce the risk of infection for all children in school. Further information on this guidance is available on the PHA website. https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/sites/default/files/Guidance_on_infection_control_in%20schools_poster.pdf
